Capturing a Higher Frame of Mind during Covid-19
Capturing a Higher Frame of Mind in a time of turmoil has got to be a choice.
We are in the middle of a global pandemic and it would be so easy to get caught up in all that could be. However, there is so much that is out of our control. The one thing that we can control is our internal state of mind, what we focus our time and attention and how we feel.
When i looked up the word capture in the dictionary there is two perspectives.
Definition 1 – Possession or control by force. To be apprehended or seized.
Definition 2 – Capturing images through pictures. To express, reproduce, represent and encapsulate something.
The thing that lies in the middle of these 2 perceptions is you and your choices. I think its fair to say that what ever you focus on, draws closer and then expands. Wayne Dyer says :When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change:
The Covid-19 world pandemic has the ability to cause you anxiety, stress, fear and sleepless nights. This all starts with what picture you present your brain with. For example if you watch the news all day and only take that perspective in, you will see lots of deaths, shops closing, airlines stopping and the list goes on. Naturally then your brain will go into panic mode and assess what that means for you. so you may begin to ask questions like :Am i going to loose my job, will i loose my house, can i get money for foods, have i got the virus now, will i or some one close to me die?
Naturally your then going to feel captured or paralysed by fear. I like to look at fear with this anagram – False, Evidence, Appearing Real.
Your brain works with pictures and then goes onto create a narrative. Have you heard the saying a picture tells a 1000 words. So with this is mind be careful what you spend time focusing on.
Its a fact that thoughts affect feelings, feelings affect your actions which in turn affect your life.
So lets look at the above from another angle. You cannot change the truth behind the present circumstances but you can change how you respond to them.
The news is telling you one story but you have the power to create your own news reel. Create a neighbourhood whats app group, ask who needs shopping, gardening, loo rolls etc. Doing good for others feels amazing and is a great distraction from times of outer turmoil.
I work with a Company called Temple Spa who are a lifestyle brand that specialise is Spa/skin care products. The first thing I did with all my spare products was create mini pamper hampers. I then set up a zoom meeting and had joint pamper times with friends.
If there is one thing that Covid-19 has shown me, its that family, community and health are so important. More important than titles, status, gucci and diamonds. In times of trouble these material things mean nothing.
I am choosing to show my mind images of street parties when we have a cure for the virus. Times where we can all hug and spend quality time with family, friends any my local community. A time when i can take a plane, boat or bus to any destination I choose because we are no longer on lock down.
This automatically makes me feel excited, hopeful and expectant because this day will surely come and what a great image to be captured by.
