Has Covid-19 Lead Us to Have Health Anxiety (Hypochondria)?
Pre Covid-19 – Fit & Healthy
The only part of my health that has been a problem over the last 10 years has been my mental health.
I suffer with overthinking. If you are one of the minority that doesn’t know about overthinking or have never experienced this, it is when you play out scenarios in your head that lead you to have anxiety and sometimes panic attacks.
An over-thinker would completely over react to things in their head. You may not even know that the over thinker is over thinking. Unless you are very close to them like your long suffering wife.
I have managed to learn to control over-thinking using Mindfulness. A technique the Jennie would gladly talk to you about.
My over thinking would never normally lead me to over think or worry about my health. I have always worried about others like my children more than myself.
What has changed? – Am I Dying?
Before Covid-19 hit our World, I never really watched the news. I always say “does it affect me in anyway?” if it does, I’ll watch it, if not “what’s the point?”
Since March 2020, the majority of the news HAS affected my family and me.
- When are the schools closing and when will they re-open?
- How much support are the government giving to us?
- When will I get to see my Mum again?
All these things have been in the news constantly for over 1 year now and they affect us.
The constant watching the news and the lockdowns have played with my mind.
Since March 2020 I have had a tickly cough on and off. I have never had this before. Every time I cough I think “do I have the virus?”
I was getting symptoms of stress and anxiety that I haven’t had for a couple of years. There was no real reason for the stress. I haven’t been over working and we live a really peaceful area, overlooking the countryside and sea.
For 2 days during this time I thought I was near the end. Obviously this is nonsense. It was just my mind overthinking, over-working and being very silly.
What is the lesson? – You’re Not Dying!
During the times of anxiety, panic and stress, it is important to talk through what you are feeling with someone you trust.
I am thankful that I have Jen especially with her skills as a Life Coach. Jen helps me by firstly listening to me and then offers me reassurance that everything is ok now and will be in the future.
Try to keep away from the news. I tend to now just look at the quick headlines. I have gotten quite addicted to learning via LinkedIn Learning. This helps me to watch something that is feeding my inquisitive mind instead of watching the damaging news.
Keeping your mind free from rubbish and filled with quality is the best way to keep your mind healthy, that and exercise!
Your mind is lying, you are not dying!
